Emergency Dispatch

When you Call 911…

You should call 911 immediately if:

  • You are witnessing an in-progress crime
  • You fear for your life or safety, or for that of another
  • You believe there is an imminent threat to property

When calling 911, the dispatcher will need to ask you some questions. Be prepared to answer:

  • Your location: It is very important to know where you are or where the incident is occurring
  • If you don’t have an exact street address, the next best option is the closest intersection.
  • Information about the incident taking place
  • Information about your surroundings
  • Information about people involved
  • Ages
  • Status of the people involved (are they hurt, are they breathing, etc.)

Trust in your dispatcher’s training and experience, and they will guide you through the information that emergency service departments need to get you the quickest and most helpful response.

All non-emergency matters can be directed to the agency’s non-emergency telephone numbers.
